Widnes SciBar @ the Hillcrest Hotel

Homo Sapiens
How did we get to where we are now?

Hillcrest Hotel, Cronton Lane
Widnes, WA8 9AR
7.30 pm, Wednesday 13th February 2019

Bob Roach, Friends of Catalyst

In the first session we looked at the development of the ‘Out of Africa’ thinking that our ancestors originated in Africa, travelling out across the world from there about 70,000 years ago. Up to about 10 years ago, that seemed to it – job more or less done. However, since then various discoveries have raised doubts about that thinking, with the new ability to sometimes identify the DNA genome from ancient fossils being a major feature of several of those discoveries.

We will also look at the early Homo sapiens lifestyle as ‘hunter gatherers’ who moved to follow natural food sources. Eventually, this changed to remaining in an area & surviving by farming. From that setting, life as we now know it gradually developed.
