David’s career in Waste Water Management covered nearly 40 years, working for the NCB, Laporte Industries Widnes, North West Water and United Utilities until his retirement in 2010.
David’s talk will include:
- A review of what the Mersey was like historically, before the population explosion and industrial revolution
- Victorian times through to the 1970s as the Mersey became the most polluted river in Europe, with a particular emphasis on the Widnes area
- The clean-up process as instigated by North West Water, Environment Agency, United Utilities and others
