The Significance of Local Railways in the Development of Widnes

Catalyst, Mersey Rd, Widnes, WA8 0DF
7.30 pm, Wednesday 10th July 2019

Paul Wright – Local railway expert and long-time contributor to disused-stations.org.uk

Paul has long had an interest in railways, particularly in the Liverpool and Widnes areas. He will describe why and when they came to Widnes and how they served the industrial areas and provided services for passengers over many years. The CLC (Cheshire Lines Committee) and the LMS (London Midland and Scottish Railway) were the main providers of these services until railway nationalisation in 1948.
