Catalyst wins award for unique project!
Catalyst wins award for unique project encouraging more diversity and inclusion in science!
For the second year in a row, Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum is delighted to announce that they have won the Charity of the Year Award at the Chemicals NorthWest Awards for 2022!
Lucinda Lewis, Catalyst Education Manager, accepted the award at the prestigious awards dinner held at The Point in Manchester on Thursday evening.
The award was given in recognition of a project Catalyst delivered with funding from the UK Association for Science and Discovery Centre and the Science Museum Group’s ‘Science Capital in Practice’ programme.
Science Capital is a measure of an individual’s engagement or relationship with science and is made up of what you know about science, how you think about it, what science-related activities you do and the people you know who talk about science.
During the pandemic, Catalyst developed a range of science boxes that families could use at home to support science learning. Each science box was aimed at families with children under the age of 8 and contained instructions and equipment to undertake a number of activities. Families living within a 3 mile radius of Catalyst were able to apply online and the boxes were personally delivered to their doors.
Martin Pearson CEO of Catalyst said “We are delighted to receive this award from Chemicals NW. We worked hard during the pandemic to offer some ‘science fun’ in the home environment due to the various lockdowns preventing our doors from being open. We are delighted to receive industry recognition for our work in the local community.”
Accepting the Award, Lucinda Lewis commented “Delivering the boxes to our local community, encouraging families to engage in science at home and inspiring our scientists of the future, was rewarding in itself. For this project to now be recognised with Chemicals Northwest Charity of the Year Award is the icing on the cake!”
