Catalyst for Creativity

Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum is delighted to announce the opening of a fantastic new exhibition of artwork from Level 3 Creative Practice students studying art and design, fashion and graphic design at Cronton 6th Form College.

Students used the Catalyst building, the galleries and the history of the local area to draw inspiration to create arts concepts and ideas to develop into final pieces of art, animation, graphics and fashion.

The exhibition entitled ‘Catalyst for Creativity’ was formally opened by the Mayor of Halton, Councillor Mark Dennett and Lady Mayoress, Mrs Andrea Dennett with tutors, students and their friends and family in attendance. On opening the exhibition, the Mayor said he was really pleased to see that the arts had been incorporated into STEM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and that the pupils had used the history and heritage of the area for their inspiration.

Clare Lightfoot, Catalyst Community Engagement Coordinator said “This exhibition celebrates the impressive and talented work by these students. It reflects the commitment and thought processes that the young people put into the final pieces showcased here today and it illustrates their sense of pride in the heritage of industrial Widnes.”

CEO of Catalyst, Dr Lee Juby gave thanks to the students and to the tutors at Cronton 6th Form College, Sam Brady-Davies, David Lenderyou, Charlotte Mack, Kirsten Leigh and Jamie Swift for their support in making this exhibition a reality.

Visitors can view the exhibition in the community exhibition area at Catalyst until mid-June.
