New art exhibition opens at Catalyst
Catalyst is thrilled to announce the opening of a new art exhibition called Crossings, by local artist and teacher Shaun Smyth.
In this exhibition, Shaun is exhibiting 7 oil paintings and 3 sketches, just a small selection of his project that has followed the development of the new Mersey Gateway Bridge.
Marketing Manager at Catalyst, Meryl Jameson said “We are really pleased to be hosting this exhibition for Shaun. He is an incredibly talented artist and his paintings are attracting a lot of local attention both from Catalyst visitors and visitors to the Mersey Gateway Visitor Centre.”
On opening his exhibition, artist Shaun said “The River Mersey has played a significant role throughout my life; my proximity to it persists in being a source of inspiration for my work. The selection of paintings and drawings within this exhibition are an introduction to my ongoing exploration of the changing geographical landscape of Halton. They also serve to historically document this continually changing landscape, in particular the construction and development of the Mersey Gateway Bridge.
This exhibition has allowed me to create paintings which explore the interplay of structures observed in ever changing light conditions. My aim is always to offer the viewer an experience with a distinctive and personal sense of place.”
David Traves who is a personal friend of the artist, has composed a poem to accompany each of the paintings which will be on display at Catalyst until 31st December 2017.
