Catalyst wins Charity of the Year Award!

Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum is celebrating after being presented with the Charity of the Year Award at the Chemicals North West Awards Dinner held at the Imperial War Museum North, in Manchester on Thursday night.

Dr Diana Leitch, said ‘”As the new Chair of Trustees at the Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum and a woman who has been involved with the chemical industry and chemistry for the whole of my life I was extremely proud to collect the ‘Charity of the Year Award’ from Chemicals NW on behalf of the dedicated staff, trustees and volunteers at Catalyst. I was so pleased to be able to thank all those organisations present for what they had done in the past to support Catalyst and to encourage them to continue that support. To be able to publicly thank the outgoing Chair of Trustees, Bryan Davies, for his totally dedicated work for Catalyst was a huge bonus at the end of what had been a great and very positive evening”

Catalyst is on the cusp of a dramatic change, both in the physical spaces and in the culture of the organisation thanks to a grant of £754,600 from the Inspiring Science Fund. The vision for the future is aimed at rejuvenating Catalyst to enhance the social value of the centre and use informal science learning to attract and meet the needs of under-served and under-represented target audiences. The ambition is to expand our current audience to include adults with physical and learning difficulties, people with dementia, people experiencing mental health difficulties and children from disadvantaged schools in the immediate vicinity, the 27th most deprived borough in the country.

Industry partners in the North West are being invited to support this change through a range of sponsorship and donation opportunities; helping Catalyst to inspire the next generation of scientists in the North West. Please contact Meryl Jameson at Catalyst for more details.

Catalyst is an independent charitable trust operated by Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum Trust Limited and managed by a board of Trustees. It is the only museum in the UK which explores the science and technology behind the chemical industry and its impact on our lives, past and present, through a host of hands-on exhibits, activities and demonstrations. Catalyst is a great science based family attraction with an excellent educational focus
